Q: Why would I get a medical card when one isn’t needed for recreational dispensaries?

A: There are many benefits to getting a medical card. First, huge savings! Medical cannabis costs about 30% less than adult use (recreational) cannabis. You also save an additional 5% on sales tax. Second, the dosages and maximum purchases available are also higher than adult use cannabis. Lastly, if you are 18-20 years old, you must have a medical card to purchase marijuana in Maine.

Q: Who is eligible?

A: Any Maine resident over the age of 18 is eligible for a medical card. There are no restrictions for medical conditions needed to qualify, which means that you can try cannabis for any of your personal health, wellness, or medical needs.

Q: Do I need a doctor’s prescription?

A: No. You can get a card online or in person through a licensed medical marijuana provider. It takes about 5 minutes.

Q: How do I find a provider?

A: We have providers that issue cards at our dispensaries several times per week. The days and times vary by season and are posted here on our website.
You can also get a card online right now through Beach Health Center or Convenient Medical Cards. Your card will be emailed to you in about 30 minutes, and you can begin using your virtual card immediately. Your physical card will be mailed to you.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: The cost of your initial annual card is around $50. Renewal cards are approximately $40.

Q: Is there any other way to help with the cost of the annual card?

A: Yes! In addition to saving big over adult use cannabis on every purchase, to further sweeten the pot, we offer a 15% First Time Patient Discount and a free pre-roll or edible to new patients who get a medical card at one of our dispensaries or online with Beach Health Center.
